Polling data shows Lugar vulnerability – 8/06/11
Until recently, conventional wisdom was that six-term incumbent Richard Lugar would be a tea party target, but with no solid and public polling, no one knew just how realistic the chances of picking him off would be. Now, we’ve seen two polls. The conservative Club for Growth’s survey shows State Treasurer Richard Mourdock up on Lugar by 2 percent. Lugar’s own internal poll gives the incumbent a 14 percent advantage. In both, Lugar is below 50 percent. David Bossie, the group’s leader, said Lugar “could have showed some spine” by voting the same way the state’s other senator, Republican Dan Coats, voted.
