Michelle Malkin Rallies with Indiana Conservatives in Mourdock for Senate Race
(WASHINGTON, D.C.) – May 2, 2012 – Hundreds of Indiana grassroots activists are expected to gather in Veterans Memorial Plaza in Indianapolis on May 5 at 12:30 for a rally, sponsored by FreedomWorks for America, in support of conservative Richard Mourdock’s campaign for U.S. Senate. Following the rally, attendees will engage in a large-scale GOTV effort.
Mourdock, a popular and successful two-term Indiana State Treasurer, is challenging 36-year incumbent Sen. Richard Lugar for the Republican nomination in the May 8 primary. Mourdock’s race is expected to be a bellwether for other Tea Party efforts in 2012, prompting overwhelming statewide and national attention to his campaign.
FreedomWorks for America and several national organizations are co-sponsoring the rally, which will include 47 Indiana Tea Party groups. Scheduled speakers include conservative columnist and commentator Michelle Malkin and FreedomWorks President Matt Kibbe. Fort Wayne radio host Pat Miller will emcee the rally.
“Indiana is an important battleground for grassroots conservatives committed to replacing Republicans who have grown the size of government with true fiscal conservatives,” said Kibbe. “This rally will send a loud message to Senator Lugar and other Name Only Republicans that the American people won’t stand for their big government agenda any longer.”
“Senator Lugar prides himself on being Obama’s favorite Republican,” said Malkin. “He supported the Obama stimulus law, job-killing environmental mandates and the taxpayer bailouts of Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, as well as the auto and banking industry bailouts. Entrenched incumbency is the disease. Fresh conservative blood, like Richard Mourdock, is the cure.”
“Too many of our elected officials have lost sight of the founders’ vision of a nation based on freedom,” said Greg Fettig, co-founder of Hoosiers for a Conservative Senate, one of the Indiana Tea Party groups participating in the rally. “The rally May 5 and the primary election May 8 will send the message that we will not allow our officials to govern against that vision. America’s best days are ahead as a new breed of constitutional patriots like Richard Mourdock set out to get us back on the right track.”
